The exhibition will present a broad selection of works by this great master of modern art in an effort to stimulate a reflection on his influence and interaction with such leading Spanish artists as Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí, Juan Gris, Maria Blanchard and Julio González: art reflecting on art and on the relationship between the real and the surreal, the artist's heartfelt involvement in the tragedy of unfolding history, the emergence of the monster with a human face, and the metaphor of erotic desire as a primary source of inspiration for the artist's creativity and world vision.

Joust of the Quintana
Foligno
12 and 13 September
The first race was held on a June evening and is called La Sfida (The Challange), while the second takes place on a Sunday afternoon in September and is called "La Rivincita" ("The Rematch"). Revived in 1946, it is based on a horse race that dates back to the seventeenth century and that was to determine the order of priority for a knight of honor in fidelity to the prince or his lady. Among the various hypotheses put forward for the festivities, the one advanced by Emilio De Pasquale was the one accepted without reservation. He suggests that an equestrian competition in costume was organized in conjunction with Carnival, suggesting the possibility of finding in this event, an occasion of communion and harmony among all people.
La Giostra della Quintana is documented since the mid XV century and the traditional costumes have always been made by tailors in the town inspired by the fashion of the time, but supervised by an artistic commission to which the selection is entrusted. Sumptuous stuffs, velvets, geometric laces, stiff collars and wide draped cloaks at the shoulder and falling on right arm are the true protagonists of the festival and add to parade glitz and elegance. Firenze Suona Contemporanea - Florence Sounds Contemporary
Bargello Museum (Florence)
11 - 21 September 2014
FIRENZE SUONA CONTEMPORANEA is a high-level project which combines contemporary music with contemporary art in a unique festival which takes place in Florence in the magnificent National Museum of the Bargello, each year in September. International ensembles, soloists, visual artists; new commissions to emerging composers; Call for Score for young composers; meetings with the public. This festival is not only a challenge to the ears of classical and contemporary music lovers but also an inspiration to the thought (and way of thinking) of the Italian cultural world as a whole. The name of this festival reflects the need, clearly apparent in today’s musical and artistic world, to reconcile spaces (physical, but even more, mental) devoted to works from the present - that hard-to-define “contemporary”, the soon-to-be now or the immediate past.
